Nintendo is launching a streaming service, but it is not a competitor to Spotify

Nintendo enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the unveiling of the Switch 2, but each time the Japanese company announces something different. Today Nintendo released its latest surprise: the new streaming service Nintendo Music.

Nintendo Music is a mobile app that lets you stream music, but it’s not a competitor to Spotify or Apple Music. The new service only allows you to stream soundtracks, songs and tunes from Nintendo games from the past decades. For example, music from The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Pokémon and Splatoon. According to Nintendo, the offering will be further expanded in the near future.

The app of Nintendo Music was released today on iOS and Android, but not everyone can use it. Nintendo Music is only available to Switch Online subscribers.

You can do this with it

Nintendo Music offers curated playlists around themes, such as games, moods or characters. You can also create your own playlists. The music can not only be streamed but also downloaded for offline listening.

There is also a spoiler function, with which you can filter songs about a game that you still want to play or that you have not yet completed. Watch the Nintendo Music announcement trailer below.

More surprises

The music service is the next in a series of surprises that Nintendo presented in recent weeks. For example, the game company launched an alarm clock and announced a mysterious MMO.

The successor to the Nintendo Switch will have to wait a while. According to analysts, the launch of the new game console will take place around March 2025.
