Nintendo Switch 2 in ten keys, everything you need to know before its presentation

The presentation of Nintendo Switch 2 is very close, and that is why we want put some order in all the information that we have been seeing in recent months so that you are clear about what this console is going to be like, what we can expect from it and how much it could cost.

In this special I have sifted and compiled the most reliable information we have so far about Nintendo Switch 2, and I have grouped it into ten keys that perfectly summarize everything we need to know about it.

These keys do not have official confirmation yet, but they come from trusted sources and very credible leaks, so except for surprises, everything I am going to tell you in this article It should be fulfilled as is.

1.- It will have a larger LCD screen

Nintendo Switch has an LCD type screen with a size of 7 inches, and Nintendo Switch 2 will also have an LCD type panel, but with a size of 8 inches. This change will offer a larger viewing surface, and improve the user experience in portable mode without compromising ergonomics or mobility.

That screen size would put it above the Steam Deck, which has a 7.4-inch screen, and below the Lenovo Legion Go, which has an 8.8-inch screen. We had seen rumors that said that Nintendo Switch 2 could hit the market with an OLED panel, but in the end everything seems to indicate that this will not be the case.

Most likely, later Nintendo will release a new model of said console, and that this it does have an OLED panelas he did at the time with Nintendo Switch. This allows you to easily offer an intergenerational renewal and “refresh” interest in your console without having to make major changes at the hardware level.

2.- Your screen resolution will be higher

Nintendo Switch 2 Rumored will go up to 1080pa resolution that doubles horizontally and vertically the number of pixels that the Nintendo Switch can display, whose resolution is limited to 720p. This makes sense and fits with the increase in screen size, which as I said goes from 7 inches to 8 inches.

The increase in resolution will leave us with a more balanced pixel density ratio per inch, but it will also mean an increase in demands at the hardware level, since the console will have to move more than double the pixels (2.07 million) compared to Nintendo Switch, whose maximum peak is 921,600 pixels.

I’ve also seen some rumors saying that Nintendo could keep a 720p resolution screen on the Nintendo Switch 2, but right now those who they have more strength and meaning They are the ones that point to 1080p.

3.- It will use a new generation NVIDIA Tegra SoC

This will be essential to be able to move that screen with 1080p resolution, and its specifications represent a very important generational leap compared to the current model in every sense.

This new SoC has already been seen, it will be manufactured in the 5nm node from Samsung, and you will have:

  • ARM CPU with eight 64-bit cores based on the Cortex-A78C architecture at an unspecified frequency.
  • NVIDIA GA207 graphics core based on the Ampere architecture. It could be customized with some exclusive Ada Lovelace features.

The graphics core could have two different configurations, a more powerful one with 1.536 shaders and another less powerful one with 1.280 shaders. Nothing is confirmed yet so I can’t rule out any of those configurations. That’s why I share both with you, because any of them can be fulfilled.

4.- Nintendo Switch 2 will be less powerful than Xbox Series S

It is a fact that the new Nintendo console will not be able to match the power of the Xbox Series S. In the best of cases Nintendo Switch 2 will have a power of 1,92 TFLOPs in FP32 (handheld mode), while the Microsoft console has a power of 4 TFLOPs in FP32.

Compared to the rest of current laptops, the Nintendo Switch 2 is not going to position itself badly at all. Could be more powerful than the Steam Deck (1.63 TFLOPs in FP32), and its GPU architecture is more advanced than the one used by both it and the Xbox Series S, something that could end up making a difference in games.

Remember that raw power is not everything, and that in the end other things also matter, such as the balance of components and their architecture. In this sense, Nintendo Switch 2 will be better resolved than Xbox Series S.

5.- You will be able to move current generation multi-platform games

This is a great achievement, and a huge difference compared to the Nintendo Switch, because this console was not able to move multiplatform titles of its generation in acceptable conditions. I know it received some games, like DOOM Eternal and The Witcher 3, but both were adapted versions that were severely penalized graphically to be able to work on that console.

The same thing happened with other ports, which ended up arriving with very low graphic quality and a resolution that sometimes even fell to less than 360p, that is, less than 480 x 360 pixels. For comparison, I remind you that the Dreamcast worked at 640 x 480 pixels.

Nintendo Switch 2 will be able to move current multiplatform games without problems because it will have more powerful and better balanced hardware, and because it will have 12 GB of unified memory, a figure that exceeds the 10 GB that the Xbox Series S has. Memory is a very limiting factor in gamesand if Nintendo had only included 8 GB in Nintendo Switch 2, multiplatform would have been a big problem.

6.- It will be backward compatible with Nintendo Switch

This is the only thing that has been directly confirmed by Nintendo. The new console from the Japanese company will be able to run all Nintendo Switch games without problems, both in physical and digital formats.

We still don’t know if running Nintendo Switch games on Nintendo Switch 2 will provide any kind of improved graphic quality or more fluiditybut this would be the most logical thing. Being able to play The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild in 4K and at 60 FPS on Nintendo Switch 2 would be a real marvel.

There is also the possibility that Nintendo Switch 2 offers different degrees of improvement in Nintendo Switch games, depending on whether they are only boosted by brute force or whether they are optimized through specific patches, as is the case with PS5 Pro.

7.- It will use NVIDIA DLSS to improve performance

The Nintendo Switch 2 GPU will use the Ampere architecture, so it will be compatible with NVIDIA intelligent upscaling, DLSS Super Resolution. This has been unofficially confirmed in different leaks, including a recent patent that says that thanks to this technology the console will be able to upscale up to 4K.

DLSS Super Resolution is accelerated by the GPU’s tensor cores, and is used to render games at a lower than target resolution and then upscale to that resolution using AI to improve final image quality. Can be run on four different modes:

  • Ultra performance: renders only 33% of the image pixels. It is the one that offers the best performance, but at the cost of worse image quality.
  • Performance: Renders 50% of the image pixels. It is more balanced than the previous one, and could be the most used on Nintendo Switch 2.
  • Balanced: Renders 58% of the image pixels. It offers higher image quality than the previous ones, but has a higher cost in terms of performance.
  • Quality: Renders 67% of the image pixels. It is the one that achieves the best image quality, and the one that improves performance the least.

The quality mode is recommended for 1080p, and the performance mode for 4Kbut this does not mean that performance mode cannot be applied with 1080p resolution.

8.- It will have a dock that will have 4K resolution

This dock will maintain the same base as the Nintendo Switch, and in theory will have the same ports as the current dock and the same connectivity options. Your design will be more roundedand it has small legs that keep it in a slightly higher position.

The biggest difference between the Nintendo Switch 2 dock and the original would be in the integration of a fanwhich would improve heat dissipation in the console so that it can reach a higher working speed on its CPU and GPU.

This would translate into greater performance, and could give the console that peak power it would need to move higher resolution games in dock mode. This will have a maximum TDP of 60 watts, and an image output with 4K resolution and 30 FPS.

9.- The launch of Nintendo Switch 2 is expected in March

The presentation will take place in januaryin fact it should not take more than a few days from the moment you read this article, but its launch will take place in March. Pre-purchases could be opened at the time of presentation.

We don’t have an official explanation as to why there would be such a difference between the presentation date and the release date, but this is most likely due to a simple matter of stockthat is, to a last attempt by Nintendo to clean the stored Nintendo Switch drives.

In theory there should be no problems with the availability of Nintendo Switch 2, but if its launch ends up being a great success, resellers may try to do their thing. For this reason I recommend that if you plan to buy a unit Don’t wait and pre-purchase to make sure you won’t have any problems.

10.- Nintendo Switch 2 will have a price between 400 and 500 dollars

Nintendo Switch 2

The price of the Nintendo Switch was $299.99a figure that in Spain became 329.99 euros. Its successor is going to be more expensive, of that we can be sure, and the most reliable sources we have indicate that the price of Nintendo Switch 2 will be around 399.99 and 499.99 dollars.

Either of these two prices will place Nintendo Switch 2 in direct competition with PS5 Slim in its digital version, which is priced at $399.99. We still don’t have the price in euros, but doing a conversion and applying taxes the price would be around 468 euros at the current exchange rate, as long as said console is priced at $399.99.

His approach as hybrid system two in one (portable and desktop console), and the interest of exclusive Nintendo franchises, could be enough to win the favor of consumers over their direct rivals, which also suffer the logical wear and tear of having more on the market. of four years.
