The sports brand of Nissan, Nismowill continue to design and produce high-performance sports cars even in gas. Confirmation was given in a recent interview by Pierre Loing, the company’s global product chief, who declared that: “Nismo does not have a specific goal of becoming an all-electric division.”
Still sports
Loing’s interview was published by the British magazine Top GearAccording to the manager, the growth of electric vehicles has been very variable in the recent period and “our role as manufacturers is to adapt”.
According to the manager, the company is still focusing on its E-Power powertrain, which combines the petrol engine with a battery generator and which already equips models such as the Qashqai and the X-Trail, but at the same time it is also aware that a car like the GT-R may be more appealing to the Nismo brand, than a model like the Ariya.
During the chat with English journalists, Loing himself admitted that the Ariya is not a cheap electric vehicle, but also that its maximum price cannot reach “a super high level”, which ultimately depends on the model.
A Nismo package must fit the product, according to the manager, and any expansion to other models will need strong sales to justify its existence.
Finally, Loing concluded by explaining that if you had asked him about the company’s EV plans a few years ago, he would have “given a different answer.”

A new sports car is already in the works
As we recently recalled in a dedicated article, Nissan has recently hinted at wanting to launch a third high-performance model, declaring several times that it wants to resurrect the beloved Silvia.
In an interview given to the Australian magazine Drivea senior official confirmed at the beginning of September that the new sports car had been officially put into production. What is not yet clear, however, is what form it will take and above all when it will officially arrive and if also in Europe.
