Nissan: Possible return of Silvia

According to Ivan Espinosa, Nissan’s vice president of global product strategy, the Japanese company is considering bringing the Silvia name back to the market as an affordable sports model that will be positioned between the Z and the new GT-R.

Espinosa did not reveal more details, nor did he say whether the new Silvia will have an internal combustion engine or be purely electric.

The possibilities are there, but at the end of the day it’s a business, so I have to find ways to make this kind of proposition interesting to the company. Sometimes such cars struggle a bit because the audience is not that big, but it can work if we find the right concept that can be sold everywhere in the world. Chances are as long as the car offers enough power at the right price that customers will find it attractive.

It’s going to be a challenge, but it’s my job to find ways to do things like that, because I think it’s going to be great for the customers and for the company, and if I can get the formula right, we could make it work,

Espinosa characteristically stated.
