No more coupes at Audi; it’s time to up the ante with SUVs and electrics. The new A5 is what you’ve known up until now as the Audi A4

The new Audi A5 is here, replacing the Audi A4 as we knew it. With this launch, the Ingolstadt brand is introducing new names for its models: even numbers such as A4, A6 or A8 are reserved for 100% electric vehicles, while odd numbers (previously intended for coupé models) now designate electrified ones.

This change also means the disappearance of the traditional Audi A5 coupé, the last member of the family with only two doorsThis farewell adds to the farewells we have experienced in recent months to the iconic Audi TT and Audi R8, as well as any convertible version.

Features and specifications of the new Audi A5 2024

The new Audi A5 marks a significant milestone in the evolution of the brand, now identifying the Audi D-segment sedan and Avant estate version with combustion engines, albeit electrified. This means that there will no longer be an Audi A5 coupé or cabriolet, not even in the case of models with the S or RS surname.

This decision reflects the current market trend, where cars with Niche bodies are being replaced by larger volume ones (and more profitable) models such as sedans or four-door SUVs with a more versatile style. Audi is following this trend, focusing on more profitable models and an ever-growing range of electric vehicles.

The new Audi A5 has grown slightly compared to its predecessor, increasing by 60 mm in length and 13 mm in width. Its exterior design features athletic lines, with a grille Singleframe wider and flatter, slimmer headlamps with customisable digital daytime running lights and a voluminous bonnet.

Flush door handles and rims ranging from 17 to 20” complete the elegant profile, while the rear window culminates in a ducktail spoiler. Second-generation OLED taillights and a tailgate that opens with the rear window are other notable details of the exterior aesthetic.

The interior of the A5, partly inspired by the Audi Q6 e-tron, offers a new design that emphasizes personalization and digitalization, eliminating most physical buttons. Thus, the “Digital Stage” combines an 11.9” digital instrument cluster with a 14.5” screen for the multimedia system, creating a panoramic MMI with a renewed interface. In addition, the car features a digital assistant, integrated with ChatGPT, capable of operating more than 800 functions.

Optionally, a third screen for the passenger, a head-up display and a panoramic roof with PDLC technology can be added. In addition, it includes wireless charging for phones with 15 watts of power and active cooling.

In terms of safety features, the new Audi A5 comes with a wide range of assistance systems as standard, such as: rear parking assistance, reversing camera, lane departure warning, efficiency assistant, adaptive cruise control and attention and fatigue detection, among others. It also includes three-zone climate control, heated front seats and LED plus headlights with automatic adjustment.
