Lando Norris admitted it “hurt” that he had to hand the Hungarian GP victory to Oscar Piastri, but it was the right thing to do.
As he said he would not want to be a man who is not fair, adding that Piastri has done a lot for him in the past and helped him in many fights.
He drove better than me today, he made a better start, he made a better start and he deserved the win. It was the right thing to do.
However, it hurts to give away the victory when he is at the forefront of the race and you know that every point can count. I know I’m far behind Max in the championship (76 points). I understand. No one needs to tell me that. Can the 7 points I dropped today be decisive at the end of the season? I am not familiar. I lost them because of my bad start. It’s harsh, but it’s fair.
For his part, Oscar Piastri also said that McLaren’s decision to tell Norris to give him first place was correct, adding that it was amazing to see McLaren do 1-2 again, after the Italian GP of 2021.
