Norris: I’ve had steep moments – Lead

Lando Norris won the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix with flying colors – the McLaren driver won the third victory of his career in the unusually uneventful race, which did not even have a safety car. Behind the Briton, the world championship leader Max Verstappen (Red Bull) was waved off, while Oscar Piastri (McLaren) could stand on the bottom step of the podium.

At the end of the 62-lap race David Coulthard – who previously won 13 races in F1, while he is currently an expert for Channel 4 – produced by interviews with the podium finishers.

“It was an amazing race” he declared Norris, who was able to win again after the Miami and Dutch Grand Prix. “I had some steep moments at half distance, but regardless of them I was able to control the race. The car was magnificent, we soared during the entire race. It was a nice but hard race, I was a bit exhausted at the end, but I enjoyed it.”

“It’s not that you have to overcommit, sometimes it’s enough to lean back too much. Maybe both of them played a part, but I don’t know” – he dissected the two wall touches. “It was a tricky race. I pushed because I didn’t want to win by a second, but with the biggest advantage possible.”

Due to the fact that VCARB’s Daniel Ricciardo set the fastest lap in the last lap, Norris could no longer make up for the bonus point. Verstappen his advantage thus decreased by only seven points instead of eight, from 59 to 51. The Dutchman, who is driving for his fourth World Cup title, is still not disappointed.

“I had a lonely race” – began the 26-year-old driver of Red Bull. “I tried to do my best and drive at my own pace throughout. However, the first stage was difficult for us because the tire wear was quite high, while the second stage was a bit better, so I was able to go a little more comfortably.”

“On the weekend we expected to have to fight, compared to second place is a good result” – continued the Dutchman. “Of course, we are not satisfied, because we need to improve more than this, and we will try.”

“This can change quickly” – he came out to the melting pot. “We have to keep going, and at some point we have to try to turn it around so that we don’t always end up behind, but we’ll see.”

Following his derailment on Saturday Plates starting from fifth place, he finished in third place, with which he collected his seventh podium of the year.

“It was a good race, we managed to recover after the qualifying session” said the Australian from McLaren. “It wasn’t my best afternoon, but it’s still great to be on the podium. We have a very fast car below us, and we needed a good strategy to beat Mercedes. Big thanks to the team because we had an exceptional car this weekend.”

“This time I managed to stay away from the walls. I was a bit close to George (Russell) in the first corner, but when I took over third place I didn’t want to risk much. I was like, I’ve hit quite a wall in the last two weeks.”
