Norris knapp vor Leclerc, Russell crasht

In the World Championship standings, Lando Norris is chasing world champion Max Verstappen. The McLaren driver even finishes Friday’s training as the fastest. Verstappen is left behind.

Max Verstappen’s World Championship rival Lando Norris secured the best time in Friday’s training for the Formula 1 race in Singapore. The McLaren driver narrowly beat Charles Leclerc in his Ferrari to second place (+0.058 seconds) in 1:30.727 minutes on the Marina Bay Street Circuit. Last year’s winner Carlos Sainz rounded off the Scuderia’s strong result with third place (+0.629 seconds).

World champion Verstappen could not get past 15th place in the Red Bull. The Dutchman has been waiting for a win for seven races and has not yet won in Singapore. He leads the World Championship standings with 59 points ahead of Norris. The only German regular driver, Nico Hülkenberg, improved to tenth place in the Haas.

Shortly before the end of the second practice session, George Russell crashed the front of his Mercedes into the track barrier, but was able to drive his car back to the pits himself.
