North Korea is preparing to send additional troops, artillery and kamikaze drones to support Russia in its war in Ukraine, the South Korean military says, according to The Kyiv Independent.
North Korea plans to increase military support to Russia in the war against Ukraine, according to the statements of the General Staff of the South Korean Army (JCS), quoted by the Yonhap agency.
In addition to the thousands of troops already sent to Russia, North Korea recently began using military units in assault operations alongside Russian forces in the Kursk region.
North Korea produces kamikaze drones
The JCS reported that Pyongyang is providing artillery systems, including 240mm rocket launchers and 170mm self-propelled artillery.
There are also indications that North Korea is producing kamikaze drones, unveiled in November during an inspection led by Kim Jong Un. A defense treaty signed in June between North Korea and Russia obliges the two states to provide military assistance in the event of an attack.
Ukraine has reported the use of North Korean troops by Russia since the fall, and recently the South Koreans confirmed the death of at least 100 North Korean soldiers in fighting in Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of trying to hide information about losses suffered by North Korean troops.
