North Korea claimed that the first ballistic missile launched in the new year was a hypersonic ballistic missile.
On the 6th, North Korea carried out a provocation by launching a ballistic missile for the first time in the new year.
Regarding this projectile, North Korea announced on the 7th through the state-run Rodong Sinmun, “The missile is a hypersonic ballistic missile, flew at a speed of 12 times the speed of sound, and flew 1,500 km before landing.”
This is a slightly different claim from the flight trajectory confirmed by our military.
At around 12 PM on the 6th, the day of launch, our military announced, “An intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) was launched from the Pyongyang area into the East Sea, flew approximately 1,100 km, crossed over Al Island off the coast of Gilju-gun, North Hamgyong Province, and landed in the East Sea.” There is a bar.
Our military understands that this missile was launched from a mobile launch vehicle (TEL), and added that a larger scale of TEL movement has been detected in the Pyongyang area.
Both South Korea and the United States presumed that North Korea’s latest missile provocation was carried out for the purpose of showing off its presence ahead of the inauguration of the second Trump administration.
