It has been reported that a doctor working at the No. 26 Munitions Factory Hospital in Ganggye-si, Jagang-do, North Korea, suffered the tragedy of losing not only his home and property but also his wife in an unexpected incident, causing sorrow to those around him.

According to Daily NK’s Jagang Province source on the 22nd, this incident began when Mr. A, a man in his 30s and a radiology doctor at the No. 26 Munitions Factory Hospital in Ganggye City, purchased a newlywed home for 10,000 yuan in the middle of last month.

The original owners of this house, located in Gangseo-dong, Ganggye-si, a couple in their 40s, were planning to escape from North Korea and put the house on the market for the purpose of urgently raising funds. Mr. A, completely unaware of the couple’s plans, simply intended to live with his newly married wife. The house in question was purchased.

However, when it was reported by a neighbor of the People’s Unit, an informant for the National Security Agency, that the couple was attempting to defect from North Korea, Mr. A became embroiled in a North Korean defection incident unrelated to him.

Mr. A and his wife were arrested and interrogated by the Provincial Security Bureau on the 4th on suspicion of being involved in North Korean defection, and were eventually punished by having all their assets confiscated for helping those attempting to defect from North Korea.

By imposing harsh punishment not only on residents who attempted to defect from North Korea, but also on those who were unintentionally involved, a strong warning message was sent.

The source said, “After being investigated for a week, the doctor was released penniless as the wedding support he had raised earlier this year and the newlywed house and household property he had purchased with the money he had saved were confiscated. In addition, his wife left a note asking for a divorce, and as a result, he left the house. “I lost everything, including my family and property,” he said.

It is said that the neighbors who heard Mr. A’s story could not help but feel sad.

The source said, “Everyone is shocked when the story of how he, a former military veteran who lived faithfully after graduating from college, was suddenly treated as a sympathizer who provided funds to those who went to Korea and became penniless became known.”

Meanwhile, it has been reported that a couple in their 40s who tried to sell their house to Mr. A and defect from North Korea are scheduled to be transferred to a political prison camp under the Ministry of State Security at the end of this month.

The source said, “Even in Jagang Province, which has a small amount of national supply compared to other places because it is a special area where munitions factories are concentrated, an increasing number of residents are choosing to defect from North Korea due to economic difficulties.” He added, “People are calling for the innocent munitions factory doctor No. 26, who has nothing to do with the North Korean defection incident. “The response is that the property confiscation punishment imposed on him is too harsh.”
