Peter Carlsson, Northvolt’s outgoing CEO.

The Swedish battery manufacturer Northvolt, which recently applied for reconstruction in the USA, may also apply for reconstruction in Sweden.

– It may be that we follow this process with a Swedish reconstruction, but we have not made a decision about that, says outgoing CEO Peter Carlsson in SVT’s Agenda.

The idea is that the company will release a total of SEK 2.7 billion through its American reconstruction according to Chapter 11. According to Carlsson, a Swedish reconstruction could take place within one or a couple of months.

When asked what the company has failed to do, Carlsson answers the following in Agenda.

– We misjudged the complexity of setting up such a large factory, bringing in so many new staff and the fact that this equipment we brought in was new.

Northvolt should have pulled the handbrake

The Northvolt manager points out that there were established service organizations for the supplier the company uses. Furthermore, the products that Northvolt intends to sell are difficult to produce.

– Making a battery from start to finish is over two hundred process steps and if you want to make a really, really good battery, you have to put each process step in a very advanced process, Carlsson states in the SVT program.

Furthermore, he states that Northvolt should have pulled the brakes earlier.
