Norska Statkraft is planning two large offshore wind power projects in the Bothnian Sea that could exceed Ringhal’s production.
Norska Statkraft is taking new steps towards establishing itself as a leading player in offshore wind power in Sweden. This is reported by Dagens industri.
It concerns applications for two large projects; Sigma and Lambda North, located in the Bothnian Sea. In total, they would generate 20 TWh of electricity per year, which exceeds the production in Ringhal’s two nuclear power reactors.
Sigma, which is proposed to be located 10 miles east of Sundsvall, can have up to 143 wind turbines and produce 14 TWh annually.
Lambda North, located 5 miles east of Hudiksvall, is planned to consist of 74 wind turbines with a production of 6 TWh.
The projects are expected to require investments of several tens of billions of kroner and may be completed during the first half of the 2030s, Statskraft estimates.
“With low electricity prices and high construction costs, the profitability and financing of all new electricity production is currently challenging. But as demand for electricity will increase, we expect market conditions and conditions to improve, CEO Jakob Norström tells the business newspaper, among other things.
