Not just Apple or Samsung. The Chinese also want their mixed reality headset

Vivo is preparing its own headset

In 2023, Apple entered a segment completely unknown to it, namely the world of headsets. The technology giant introduced the inflated headset for mixed reality Vision Pro, which gradually spread to almost the whole world, and it was clear that the competition would try to imitate this move. After Samsung, another manufacturer is planning its own glasses for mixed reality.

Much ado about nothing?

When Apple introduced and released the Vision Pro glasses (or headset), there was a huge wave of interest, despite the very, very high price of this device. However, interest has waned over time, and we wouldn’t be at all surprised if the Californian giant internally labeled sales of this device as a failure. Either way, the kit from Apple left a big mark on the market.

Its second generation is reportedly planned, so it is evident that they are not giving up on this type of electronics in Cupertino yet. And there is also competition. Samsung has been working on its own headset for a long time, and in a few weeks, more specifically, at the January premiere of the Galaxy S25 flagships, we will probably see it. And in 2025, Vivo will also come with its own little bit to the mill.

Headset from Viva in preparation

As reported by the server GSMArenathe Chinese manufacturer has already officially confirmed that it is working on a headset for mixed or combined reality and will show it this year. It will be focused similarly to Apple’s Vision Pro, and the Chinese manufacturer has expanded the team dealing with this type of electronics by another 500 people due to this news.

The technical parameters, even any indication of the specifications, are unfortunately completely unknown for now, but it is clear that if Viva’s headset wants to compete with Apple and its Vision Pro kit, it will have to be technically very high. In any case, the Chinese manufacturer claims that it even surpasses its prototype with some functions.

When will this headset arrive?

Vivo has confirmed that the first prototype will arrive in September or October 2025, which could at least outline what we can expect. The exact date of the launch is still in the stars, however, large-scale testing in China should take place at the end of 2025. Of course, the ecosystem and applications that will be available for this headset will play a big role. It is not yet known whether this new product will go on sale outside of China.
