Nothing Phone (2a) Community Edition: Coming October 30th and… glows in the dark

In March, Nothing presented it Phone (2a)a budget smartphone that showcases the brand’s distinctive design.

Back then, the company invited its community to co-design a special Community Edition of the Phone (2a) and now the time has come for its launch.

The Phone (2a) Community Edition will be released on October 30, the company announced on X. Along with the announcement, Nothing shared a teaser that featured a video of a firefly landing, glowing green, and then flying off-screen. This firefly is associated with a distinct feature of the phone.

The Community Edition may look like your standard Phone (2a), but it has a unique twist: a glow-in-the-dark rear panel. This idea, called Phosphorescence, comes from Kenta Akasaki and Astrid Vanhuyse, two of the five winners who worked with Nothing to create this phone.

With an innovative use of materials, Kenta and Astrid’s submission is true to Nothing’s vision. Playful, meaningful and just the right level of unexpected. Their concept, Phosphorescence, was well executed with a great story and research behind it. The duo clearly thought about how to communicate their inspiration for the project and how it could work within our existing product range.

Along with its unique glowing back, the Community Edition will feature brand new skins and refreshed packaging that really show off its striking green hue. The winner in the marketing department has also gone to great lengths to ensure that this model is clearly distinguishable from the regular Phone (2a).

All the tweaks are focused on the design and external features, so the Community Edition is likely to be identical to the regular Phone (2a) on the inside.

This means that the features of the device are as follows:

6.7 inch display protected by Gorilla Glass 5
All plastic construction
MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro processor
A 5,000 mAh battery
A 50 MP main camera, a 50 MP ultra-wide lens and a 32 MP front camera
