Initial users can link their Spotify and Instagram accounts to create social media trend playlists, for example. But users should be aware of a catch, because Instagram wants to profit from this.
Two of the largest and most popular online platforms have entered into a cooperation so that their users can combine their features. Anyone who discovers music on Instagram and generally listens to music on Spotify will be able to combine these aspects in the future. A new feature that is available to the first test users allows Instagram users to link their Spotify accounts. They can then transfer the songs discovered on the social media platform directly to a dedicated Spotify playlist. This is a good way to put together a list of current trending sounds, for example – which could also be of interest to marketers in order to keep up with the times.

Be careful when linking your Spotify account: Instagram gets comprehensive insights
The screenshots of the information about the new feature shared by app researcher Radu Oncescu show what users allow Instagram to do with the link. According to this, the meta-subsidiary can see details of your account settings on Spotify, your name, username, followers, public playlists and profile picture. Instagram also recognizes the content played, saved content and playlists that you have created or listened to with this permission. Instagram can even add items to your library if you as a user agree to the link. You can remove this access at any time. But it is good for users to know that Instagram is not seeking the connection to Spotify solely for the entertainment of users.
Rather, the platform wants to collect data that can then be used for monetization through advertising with relevant targeting principles. The connection could also be useful for Spotify. The streaming service could generate even more usage time and possibly benefit from the advertising options in the long term. Recently there were reports that Spotify and Meta are aiming for a cooperation that would enable Meta Ads on Spotify and playlist promotions on Meta wearables. However, there is no official classification on this yet.
