Oh Seung-rok, mayor of Nowon-gu, Seoul, attended the opening ceremony of the Nowon Mathematics Culture Center remodeling at 2 p.m. on December 24.
Nowon Math Culture Center is an experiential learning space established for the first time in a local government nationwide in 2019 to popularize math culture and connect various educational programs.
This remodeling was centered on the second floor, which was previously used as an exhibition space for ‘Tiri Tiri Computer World’.
The renewed space includes ▲’Math Tap’, where you can experience math concepts such as fractions and multiplication in a play format, ▲’Match Math’, where you become the main character in a game and solve math problems, and ▲’Match Touch’, where you learn the regularity of numbers. It has been renovated into a ‘Math Play Zone’ that includes various experience programs.
In addition, the district plans to continuously introduce software (SW) content that can stimulate mathematical curiosity and increase learning effectiveness by considering the learning level of infants, elementary school students, and family visitors.
Approximately 50 people, including District Mayor Oh Seung-rok, city and district council members, and officials, attended the opening ceremony, which was held in the following order: ▲ progress report ▲ introduction of guests ▲ greetings ▲ cutting ceremony ▲ rounding.
District Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “We have renovated the exhibition hall to expand experience and thinking beyond simple viewing,” and added, “I hope it will be a space where children can feel the joy of mathematics and develop a sense of exploration through play and experience.”
Nowon Math Culture Center plans to introduce paid admission starting in January next year. Nowon-gu residents can use it for free as before, and we plan to create a more complete viewing environment by reflecting the opinions of visitors after a pilot operation in December.
