NRC changes AI newsletter, heavier staffing

Dagblad NRC is converting its email newsletter about artificial intelligence. The focus becomes broader, the team that writes it larger.

The ten thousand subscribers of the newsletter will see, so explains editor Stijn Bronzwaer explains that there will also be items about crypto, social media, Big Tech and the chip industry.

“The underlying themes that you know from this letter do not change. It will be about power: who decides how the technology functions? It’s about regulation: where are the boundaries?”

Five people will work on the weekly Broncode newsletter.

To read the publication, a Plus subscription to NRC is required. This also allows you to register for newsletters about science, climate and future affairs.

A newspaper like the NY Times moved almost half of its then 51 newsletters behind the paywall three years ago. Now 21 of the 56 newsletters only accessible to subscribers. The podcasts are also behind a lock there. That strategy works, because these richer subscriptions are where the revenue growth comes from.
