Number of caravans and campers rises to a new record

Last year, just under 2,500 new campers were sold, an increase of almost 11 percent. These vehicles have been popular for years. In more than eight years, the number of campers registered in the Netherlands has doubled to more than 200,000. For a long time this was at the expense of the caravan, but since corona this camping equipment is also on the rise again. In 2024, sales of new caravans increased by 6 percent to almost 7,200. The number of second-hand caravans sold also increased slightly (plus 0.2 percent to almost 16,000). “Since corona, camping in all forms has become very popular and that means that the caravan has also been rediscovered. We see customers from young to old. Old caravans are being refurbished and given a new life, while in the past they were demolished or exported,” says Rolf Reinders , chairman of Bovag Caravan and Camper Companies, in a statement.
