“Our time is no longer the time of those who spend or take time to remember what we did and what we did in these two years has already passed. We returned to the Assembly of the Republic for justice and by right”, said Nuno Melo at the ceremony celebrating the 50th anniversary of the CDS-PP, in the gardens of the Palácio de Cristal, in Porto.
According to the centrist, now is a time for exaltation, for duty fulfilled and for preparation for what is coming “which is not little”.
“And I want you to know that today the CDS takes a step forward towards the next electoral battle, towards the local elections that we will face with our heads held high with our best candidates from north to south, making a difference”, he stressed.
The leader of the CDS-PP, who is the Minister of Defense, said that the party governs nearly 40 local authorities in coalition with the PSD.
And he added: “But, six of them are led alone, because they were won in their own lists by the CDS-PP”.
Therefore, in the next local elections, the CDS-PP will present itself with its own lists and with “the spirit of those who believe they will perform well”.
“I know we’re going to do well,” he said.
Nuno Melo pointed out that, for this, the time is now on the streets with the municipal and district councils.
Despite being part of Luís Montenegro’s government, Nuno Melo guaranteed that the CDS-PP “does not paint itself orange”, being a supportive party that stands in solidarity with those who are orange.
“The CDS-PP is in this Government and in this Government it makes a difference in building Portugal”, he stressed, reaffirming that he is part of the executive in his own right.
Saying that the party is a full-fledged party and a creditor of the credibility of democratic institutions, the centrist leader considered that the CDS-PP “was once again decisive for another victory of the Democratic Alliance” and for “putting an end to eight years of bad socialism in Portugal”.
