The proposal for an increase in nurses’ salaries presented by the Ministry of Health to the Commitment to Nursing Trade Union Platform is classified as a non-proposal by the five unions, which refused to negotiate and presented their proposal.
The president of the Independent Union of All United Nurses (SITEU), Gorete Pimentel, told Lusa that the ministry presented a minimum proposal that the unions do not even consider to be a proposal, but rather a non-proposal, because the document “is not based on anything”.
The representatives of the five nursing unions received this Wednesday for negotiations, according to the union leader, told the Ministry of Health that they were going to pretend that today’s meeting did not take place because what was presented to them was not a proposal.
This was the third meeting of the Government to negotiate a value for the salary scale, he recalled, highlighting that consecutively the executive has not presented anything to negotiate.
This table must be the first to be negotiated, because these professionals must be valued, argued Gorete Pimentel.
The unions are now waiting for the counterproposal from the negotiating table to decide what to do, he said, recalling that the nurses’ salary scale has not been revised for more than 15 years.
The Trade Union Platform Commitment to Nursing brings together, in addition to SITEU, the National Union of Nurses (SNE), the Union of Nurses (SE), the Independent Union of Nursing Professionals (SIPENF) and the Democratic Union of Nurses of Portugal (SINDEPOR).
