In honor of the upcoming 20th anniversary of Valve’s shooter Half-Life 2, the Orbifold Studios team presented a new video for their reimagining of the legendary game based on the RTX Remix platform – Half-Life 2 RTX.
In a five-minute video on the Nvidia GeForce YouTube channel, the founders of Orbifold Studios talked about the legacy of Half-Life 2, outlined the goals of Half-Life 2 RTX and presented new gameplay footage of the remaster.
According to the modders, Half-Life 2’s gameplay and narrative still hold up well, with the team trying to recreate “that feeling of awe we felt 20 years ago when we first launched the game.”
With RTX Remix, members of Orbifold Studios (including professionals) will completely rework Half-Life 2: high-poly models, physically based rendering, path tracing, DLSS 3.5, Reflex and RTX IO.
“What we definitely don’t want to do is turn (Half-Life 2) into another game. We just want to modernize it with details that Valve could and did add to Half-Life: Alyx,” says Orbifold Studios.
Along with the release of the video, the Half-Life 2 RTX page appeared on Steam. The remaster is positioned as a free addition for all owners of the original game. A complete translation into Russian (text and voiceover) has been announced.
Half-Life 2 was released on November 16, 2004, received the highest scores from critics (96% for the PC version on Metacritic) and earned cult status. It is assumed that Valve is preparing a major update to the game for the anniversary.
