OE: If the Government wants to negotiate only with the PS, it must give in on essential matters, says socialist leader – State Budget

The leader of the PS, Pedro Nuno Santos, stated today in Porto that if the Government wants to negotiate the State Budget (OE) exclusively with the PS, it has the obligation to give in on matters that are essential to the socialists.

In statements at the end of the meeting with the National Federation of Doctors, the socialist secretary-general passed the ball to the Government at a time when “they still do not know when they will meet again to discuss the next State Budget”, he said.

“If the Government has limited itself to negotiating exclusively with the PS, then the Government has an obligation to yield to the PS on matters that are fundamental to the PS and we are not demanding anything too much, we do not want to replace the Government”, stressed the socialist leader.

Asked about what measures they want to see discussed, Pedro Nuno Santos responded: “we will have the opportunity in the State Budget meetings to ensure that some deeply negative measures are not in the State Budget and that some, not many, that could improve it are introduced”.

Opening up a little about his intentions, the secretary general stated that the PS wants to “avoid a State Budget with measures that are very expensive from a budgetary point of view and that will bring injustice to the country, first and foremost between young people who earn a lot and those who earn little and who are, unfortunately, the majority, and injustice between work colleagues, with the same job, who will have very different net salaries”.
