The President of the Republic was convinced this Tuesday that “there will be no reason for a big surprise” in the discussion phase regarding the State Budget for 2025 and the document will be approved in a final vote on November 29th.
“If you compare the various amendment proposals, particularly with the proposals from the leading opposition party, I would say that, even in the specialty, there probably won’t be any reason for great surprise”, maintained Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa on the sidelines of the delivery of the COTEC PME Innovation Award -BPI 2024, in Porto.
Stating that he did not want to intervene in the budget process, which he considered to be “very long” and now enter the final decision process, the head of state said he remained convinced that the Government’s proposal will be approved by parliament, in a final global vote, on the day 29.
“I have one conviction: it is that in essence, which was the passage of the State Budget, it is acquired, it is acquired by the vote in general and I am convinced that it is acquired by the final global vote”, he pointed out.
After the PS announced that it will enable the approval of the budget by abstaining in the final vote on the 29th, as it did with the vote in general, doubts now fall on the proposed changes in the specialty, namely whether they will change the accounts of the Government.
. Voting on the specialty begins next Friday, culminating in the final global vote on the document on November 29th.
Parties with parliamentary seats have so far delivered 2,161 amendment proposals to the State Budget for 2025 (OE2025), once again breaking the record of 2,123 proposals delivered by the end of the day on Friday.
Last year, a record had been set, with parties delivering 1,864 proposed amendments. This year, the deputies reached a new maximum again.
