The Prime Minister today ruled out a possible scenario of early elections, stating that the country wants stability so as not to harm existing financing opportunities, in an implicit response to criticism from the PS secretary general.
“The country hopes that this occasion will not harm a path of growth, a path of taking advantage of opportunities, particularly financing, which are extraordinary,” said Luís Montenegro.during the inauguration of the History Factory — Rice, in Estarreja, in the district of Aveiro.
Montenegro, who only gave one speech, without speaking to journalists, said that the country wants the Government to guarantee “stability, responsibility and a sense of the future”, instead of “looking for existential, superfluous crises, for those who only think about themselves, or their own interests”.
A statement that can be understood as a response to the statements made by the PS secretary general, who today accused the Government of not having been serious in the management of different dossiers and of having “made propaganda and deceived the Portuguese” by having early elections in mind and wanting to prepare for them.
In his speech, Montenegro said that it is this “sense of the future” that he has shared on the street, in contacts with institutions and entities, stating that “this is what will happen in the coming days regarding the important decisions” that the Government has ahead of it, in an allusion to the discussion of the State Budget for 2025.
Looking at the work that was inaugurated today, the Prime Minister stated that there are “many reasons to believe in the country”.
“(For) what we have already been able to do and for what we know we can do, if we want, in the future”, he said, adding that this example “can and should be replicated in public services and companies”.
On the same occasion, Anabela Amorim, widow of the grandson of Carlos Marques Rodrigues, who founded the old “Hidro-Elétrica” of Estarreja in 1920, an old rice husking factory where the new museum space is currently located, spoke of the “miracle of engineering, architecture, and labor that transformed a wreck into this beautiful building, respecting its design”.
Quoting Fernando Pessoa – “God wants, man dreams and the work is born” -, Anabela Amorim said she hopes that this new cultural facility in the municipality “illuminates its history and its role in the development, knowledge and preservation of culture and tradition in Baixo-Vouga Lagunar.
After being donated to the municipality by the family of Carlos Marques Rodrigues, the building underwent rehabilitation and adaptation works, with an investment of 1.2 million euros, which had a community contribution, to which around 500 thousand euros were added for the museography.
The new museum incorporates a multifunctional area, a shop and a restaurant on the upper floor that will serve dishes made with Estarreja rice.
The Museum’s inaugural programme, which runs until Sunday, includes guided tours of the fields where this cereal is grown. Entry will be free until the end of the month.
