The new generation of the Transporter (T7) was presented by Volkswagen, with the model based on the Ford Transit Custom, but aesthetically it carries several elements from the ID. Buzz, while it is also offered in a PanAmericana version.

The length of the new Transporter is 5.05 meters, an increase of 14.6 centimeters, with its wheelbase increasing by 9.7 centimeters and reaching 3.1 meters. The long-wheelbase version is 5.45 meters long and has a wheelbase of 3.5 meters.

Its width has increased by 12.8 cm and comfortably accommodates a Euro pallet in the cargo area, which has increased by 6.1 cm, offering a total volume of 5.8 cubic meters, with the version with the long wheelbase and high roof to have a capacity of 9 cubic meters.

The new Transporter is based on the Ford Transit Custom, has a payload of 1.33 tons, can tow a weight of up to 2.8 tons, and inside we find a 12″ digital board, a 13″ screen, a wireless charging base, USB-A ports, USB -C and 12 volts, while it can be equipped with a “power distributor” that can handle up to 400 Watts. The plug-in hybrid and electric versions have a 2.3 kW power inverter.

Mechanically, it is offered with the 2.0-liter turbodiesel diesel engine with 110, 150 and 170 hp, as well as with a 2.5-liter plug-in hybrid with 232 hp, which has an 11.8 kWh battery with an electric range of up to 57 kilometers .

It is also available as a pure electric, having the same drivetrain as the E-Transit Custom. This is offered in four versions of 136, 218 and 286 hp, with the 64 kWh battery providing a range of up to 380 km per charge (WLTP).

The Transporter accounts for two-thirds of Volkswagen Commercial’s sales, with the new generation built at Ford’s plant in Otosan, Turkey. It will be offered in two, three, four, five, six and nine-seat configurations, as well as panel van and Kombi versions.
