Official: RTX 5090 will be 30% more powerful in raw power, RTX 5070 by 20%

At its keynote, NVIDIA enticed a huge increase in the performance of the new RTX series 50. However, users discovered in research that DLSS, not “raw” performance, is responsible for these increases. This is now confirmed by NVIDIA with the release of official benchmarks.

The video from Cyberpunk 2077 probably became the most controversial. On it, NVIDIA showed the performance of the 5090, which in 4K with full ray tracing and DLSS turned off reached less than 30 FPS, while with DLSS it was almost ten times higher. However, the players did not stop at the brutal increase, but at the very low FPS in the native resolution.

Attentive users then realized that the same test was done by NVIDIA is 4090, which in native resolution reached approx. 21 FPS – on average, the 5090 is 6 FPS more powerful, which gives about 30%.

During the next presentation, where NVIDIA presented much more detailed tests and comparisons with the 40th series, these numbers were confirmed. The claim of twice the performance was made possible thanks to DLSS 4 MFG, i.e. technology that generates images thanks to artificial intelligence – in the new version of MFG, we are also talking about multiple generation of images. According to official tests, the RTX 5090 is 30% more powerful than the RTX 4090 in gross performance.

While this is a much smaller difference than when using DLSS 4, it is still a significant generational shift that is not seen otherwise. But of course NVIDIA puts a huge emphasis on the new generation of DLSS technology, which does a huge amount of work.

As for the other cards, the RTX 5080 is supposed to offer around a 15% increase in performance over the 4080, 5070 and 5070 Ti promises 20% more performance. But it is still an official presentation of the manufacturer, who can choose certain games better suited for these cards and technologies. We will have to wait a little longer for the official tests.
