There has been a standoff at the official residence for two hours as the High-ranking Public Officials Crime Investigation Office steps in to execute an arrest warrant for President Yoon Seok-yeol.
On the 3rd, five airlift vehicles departed from the Gwacheon Government Complex at 6:15 a.m. and arrived in front of the Presidential Residence in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul at 7:17 a.m. Lee Dae-hwan, the head of the Martial Law Task Force (TF) of the Ministry of Public Prosecution and the head of the 3rd investigation department, entered the residence at around 8:02 am. Afterwards, it was reported that there was a confrontation between the Presidential Security Service and the official residence.
Investigators presented an arrest and search warrant to Director Park Jong-joon of the National Security Agency and requested cooperation, but Director Park took the position that he would not allow the search due to the Security Act and the security area. Director Park graduated from the Korean National Police University (2nd term) and served as Deputy Director of the National Police Agency. He also served as Deputy Director of the National Security Agency during the Park Geun-hye administration and took over as Director in September of last year under the current administration.
Basically, the entity that executes warrants is the Airborne Investigation Office, but the police, who are investigating the December 3 martial law incident by forming a joint investigation headquarters with the Airborne Investigation Office, are also sending detectives to provide support.
The number of people executing the arrest warrant is 150, including 30 from the Airborne Investigation Office and 120 from the police special unit. Of these, the number of people who entered the jurisdiction was 30 from the Airborne Investigation Office and 50 from the police. It is reported that the remaining 70 police officers were waiting outside the official residence and some additional officers were brought in.
