As expected, the USA basketball team has reached the semifinals at the Olympic Games. The US team won its quarterfinal against Brazil on Tuesday with a clear 122:87 (63:36).
Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns was the best scorer for the team led by superstar LeBron James with 18 points.
The Americans had little trouble with the South Americans in front of US rapper Snoop Dogg; by the end of the first quarter they were already ten points ahead and only continued to extend this lead.
On Thursday, the new “Dream Team” will face Serbia in the semifinals, which defeated Australia 95:90 in extra time. The two nations had already met in the group phase, with the top favorites from the USA winning clearly with 110:84.
In a possible final, the Americans could play against the German team in a duel for gold. The world champions will face France again in the semifinals after their victory over Greece (76:63).
Coach Gordon Herbert’s team won their first encounter with the hosts in the group phase with ease.
