A bereavement has overshadowed the start of the boxing competitions at the Summer Games in Paris.
Samoan coach Lionel Elika Fatupaito died on Friday in the Olympic Village after a heart attack, the suspended world association IBA announced on Saturday. Fatupaito was 60 years old.
Despite immediate medical attention, the rescue workers were unable to prevent the coach’s death, the public prosecutor’s office reported according to the news agency “AFP”.
Fatupaito died “of natural causes.” The boxing competitions began in Paris on Saturday.
