Top favorite USA has also won its second group game in the Olympic basketball tournament.
The NBA stars beat the clear underdog South Sudan 103:86 (55:36) in Lille on Wednesday evening and, like world champions Germany and hosts France, qualified early for the quarter-finals in Paris.
In front of around 27,000 spectators at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, Bam Adebayo of the Miami Heat was the best scorer in the US Dream Team with 18 points. Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns scored 14 points.
Unlike in the friendly match, South Sudan has no chance
South Sudan, taking part in the Olympics for the first time, had lost to the Americans in preparation by a narrow margin of 100:101. This time, however, the East Africans had no chance at all. The US stars were focused from the start and were already 19 points ahead at halftime.
South Sudan did manage to reduce the deficit a little after the break, but the NBA stars LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant were never in danger. Despite the defeat, South Sudan still has a chance of making it to the knockout round. The team will face Serbia on Saturday.
