On ANT1+ the documentary series for the 70th anniversary of Rally Acropolis

Through the documentary mini-series “70 Years of Rally Acropolis” unfolds the course, evolution and establishment of Rally Acropolis in world motor sports.

It is a dedication of four hour-long episodes, full of history, speed, dust and beautiful encounters between people and cars. The four episodes attempt an in-depth approach first to the history of the race, then to the perspective of the organizers, competitors and spectators.

All of them “dress up” historical and contemporary shots with their own testimonies or experiences. The result is exciting and spectacular, worthy of Rally Acropolis. The filming was largely based on the human element and the realism of the moments one experiences in the race.

The core of each episode sometimes consists of a group of spectators, people from the organization, as well as great Greek and foreign competitors who wrote or are still writing their own history alongside the 70-year course of the race.

The episode “History” was the reason for the creation of this series. In it, the course of the 70 years of the race is brought to life through archive footage, narratives of historical figures of Greek and foreign drivers and co-drivers, sponsors and state actors. Special mention is made of the return of the race to the WRC calendar in 2021, after an 8-year absence.

In the episode “The Organization” race officials reveal the hiding places of the Acropolis Rally. Never-before-seen stories, intense moments, the joys and sorrows of a World Rally Championship race. Guided by a special itineraries section leader, the plan developed from the drawing up of the special itineraries to their execution is presented. The Service Park setup, the technical strategies to make the race work, the volunteers, the safety meetings, etc.

In the episode “The view of the crews” drivers and co-drivers from Greece and abroad recount their experiences from the Acropolis Rally. Stories come to light as experienced by drivers of earlier times, while, moving to the present day, modern Greek and foreign drivers and co-drivers explain what is the magic recipe for a crew to stand out in the Acropolis Rally, which still has a reputation as one of the toughest races in the world.

In the episode “The look of the spectators”, the main axis is the common man, his impatience, the ecstasy when he sees his idols. The episode follows a group of four friends on the mountain and at the Service Park over the three days of the race. Through this company, the preparation needed to watch the race safely, the impatience until the first pass of the racing car and the opportunity that the race gives for a three-day stay in the beautiful Greek nature are shown.

The image is married to the word in a way that moves and inspires the viewer, so that even those who have no knowledge of motorsport can really look forward to experiencing the intensity of an Acropolis Rally.

The presenter of the series is a competitor, with a known love for motor sports. It is the actor Giorgos Amoutzas, who appears at the beginning and end of each episode, introducing and summarizing the key points. The documentary mini-series about the 70 years of Rally Acropolis is a production of Motorsport Greece. The production was carried out by Boo Productions, while Leonidas Panonidis is directing, Nikos Ziogas is directing photography, Alex Jaschik is editing, Antonis Xenos is in post production, Yannis-Marios Papadopoulos and Costas Psarras are in journalistic research and edited by Maria Louka.
