Google has added a new side panel Gemini in Gmail for the Web earlier this year, allowing users to use the chatbot to perform various tasks. In addition to offering email summaries, suggesting replies, preparing drafts, and answering questions about specific information, the side panel Gemini it also allows users to perform tasks in other apps Workspacesuch as Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive without leaving Gmail.
Google is now adding another integration to the mix for users to run calendar-related actions within Gmail. Google announced the new integration in a recent blog dedicated to Workspace updates, revealing that Gmail’s Gemini side panel will now allow users to create new calendar events and retrieve details about existing events.
Calendar integration is a useful addition, but it will have some limitations. Google says Gemini in Gmail can’t add or remove guests from the events or create events from information in an email. Calendar integration also does not offer the ability to extract attachments or RSPVs related to a meeting, find the best time to meet people or find time slots when you are available to meet.
