On Steam, you can play with your family at the same time. New feature now available

If you’re fed up with the way games are currently shared on Steam, you don’t have to worry anymore. There’s finally a feature that will let you play games at the same time.

Steam is an integral part of probably every computer. It could just as well be pre-installed on devices. The creators of this platform also know well how to keep millions of players with them. In fact, every season, holiday or other occasion, we can be sure that there will be some promotion on Steam. The library is growing, but the hunger for its expansion is insatiable. A change has come that will allow you to expand it even more, and for free.

Here’s the new game sharing feature

Steam presents a new way to grow your own game library. Not only yours, but also those of the people you choose. Family on Steam will allow you to create a group of up to 6 people who will share their own games. And finally, you will be able to use them while the owner is online!

Of course, other things that are normal for accounts will function as expected. That is, achievements will be available individually, and the same goes for game saves, which will synchronize with our account, not its owner.

Steam Family: It’s All Well and Good, But…

This is great news in many ways. The Steam catalog is huge, and while our libraries are also growing by the hundreds of titles, there is always something that catches our attention, but for various reasons we do not decide to add the title to the library. Or we are simply not sure if we like a given game.

The Steam family is therefore restoring a kind of demo version, which will allow us to test a given title without consequences. In fact, it is even better than a traditional demo, because progress, game saves or achievements will still be waiting on our account until we decide whether it is worth investing time in this game,

Steam

Unfortunately, it’s not perfect, the platform still has to support itself somehow. So we have a big leap forward from the traditional sharing of titles (the user couldn’t be online on their account), but… You still can’t play the same games at the same time if only one person has it. You have to have multiple copies to be able to enjoy the same item at the same time.

What can you actually play?

Well, since we already know that it could be better, what else can we expect? First of all, it is worth considering whether all the items you have will immediately become part of the family? There is no such certainty. Steam has left this decision to the owners of the games and they will decide whether the game will be listed in the service. It will be safe not to get excited about free megaproductions on the first day of release. However, it seems to me that a realistic scenario is to add these games later. Just for good PR or to remind you about the game, to squeeze something more out of it. Steam keeps a list available games.

It’s better to think before joining

The service, as the name suggests, is addressed to families or as it is often referred to on other platforms, for household. For this reason, the division of roles in the family is… Well… Family. Members can be divided into adults and children, and this in turn affects the possibilities and limitations of specific roles. For example, children can ask to buy a game and cannot leave the family on their own. An adult can stop sharing the family with any member and leave the family at any time, but this involves a block for a year.

There is also the issue of cheating in the game. What if the person who plays using our copy of the game starts cheating? When such a family member is caught, they are banned from further play and drag us down with them. We will also get banned. On the official Steam page you can read a few other answers to frequently asked questions about the new feature.
