One additional body presumed missing from Geumseong sinking accident discovered

Additional bodies presumed to be missing from the sinking of the large fishing vessel Geumseong that occurred off Jeju Island were discovered.

According to the Jeju Regional Maritime Police Agency on the 10th, during an underwater search using a remotely controlled underwater robot (ROV) of the Navy’s Cheonghaejin ship at around 3:52 p.m. on this day, one additional body, presumed to be a missing person, was discovered around the hull sinking in the sea. .

On the 10th, the body of Korean sailor A (64) of the 135th Geumseong, which was discovered and recovered by an ROV (remotely operated underwater robot) deployed from the Navy Gwangyang, is being transported to Pier 7 of Jeju Port.

The body recovery operation was carried out from 6:20 pm to 8:14 pm that day. The Coast Guard plans to transport the body to Jeju Port in a 500-ton vessel to confirm its exact identity.

The Coast Guard discovered the body of a missing Korean sailor, Deck Captain A (64), at 92m below the seafloor around the hull of the Geumseong, which sank in the sea, while conducting a search using the Navy’s remotely operated underwater robot (ROV) the night before (the 9th).

The Busan-shipped 129-ton large purse seine fishing vessel Geumseong completely sank at around 4:31 a.m. on the 8th after reporting that the ship was tilting about 22km northwest of Biyang Island, Jeju Island.

In this accident, 15 of the 27 crew members (16 Koreans and 11 Indonesians) were rescued by a nearby ship, of which two Koreans died. The remaining 12 people (10 Koreans and 2 Indonesians) were missing, but the body of one of them was discovered for the first time during a night search on the 9th, and an additional body was discovered on the 10th.
