One dead in shooting near the Israeli embassy in Jordan

A suspect was killed and three police officers were injured in a shootout that occurred this morning near the Israeli embassy in Amman, the capital of Jordan, in an incident that authorities reported was under control.

Jordan’s Public Security Directorate said a man managed to open fire on one of the police patrols traveling through the capital’s Rabieh area, close to the Israeli diplomatic representation, where three uniformed officers were injured.

Later, other police officers managed to reach the place where the shooter who tried to escape was located and killed, the same source added.

The injured agents were taken to the hospital, according to authorities, the condition of all three is moderate.

Media outlets such as the Jordanian news agency Petra and Saudi television Al-Arabiya said security forces created “a strong security cordon around the Israeli embassy” after the attack.

The press added that authorities blocked road access leading to the diplomatic building and asked residents in the area to remain indoors and avoid compromising the area of ​​the alleged crime.

The Israeli embassy, ​​located in the Rabieh neighborhood in the northwest of the Jordanian capital, has been the target of regular protests over the past few years.
