The singer known from the band One Direction Liam Payne has died at the age of 31.
Liam Payne died on Wednesday in Buenos Aires when he fell from the third floor of a hotel.
The police have confirmed to various news media that the death was caused by a falling popper. The fall occurred from a height of approximately 14 meters.
The police say they received an emergency call to the hotel. When the rescue authorities arrived at the scene, it was found that he had received very serious injuries as a result of the fall, and it was not possible to revive him.
Payne began his singing career in 2010 when his entry on The X Factor led to a spot in One Direction alongside Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson.
The band’s debut album “Up All Night” topped the Billboard 200 chart, as did the three following albums. The boy band had six top 10 hits on the Hot 100 before going on hiatus in 2015. The group toured the world on several tours and sold over 70 million albums.
After One Direction went on hiatus, Payne went on to pursue a solo career. His first solo album LP1 was released in 2019; singles from its songs had been released since 2017.
