One habit can guarantee children’s success in adulthood

Housework is not only a way to keep the home tidy, but also a great opportunity for children to develop key skills that will help them in their future success.

Involving children in doing tasks at home from an early age teaches them responsibility, problem solving and work habits. Research shows that a regular household routine can be one of the best predictors of success in adulthood, helping children understand how each family member contributes to the common good.

So, according to studies and psychologists Caitlin Slavens and Chelsea Body, the best indicator of success in adulthood is regular housework, reports Index.

“Housework teaches children responsibility, problem solving and work habits. Children learn that everyone participates in helping each other,” psychologists explained in a recent post on Instagram.

They also identified which household chores are suitable for which age.

Jobs for children from two to four years old:

  • Sorting toys
  • Dusting the coffee table, chair legs, etc.
  • Watering plants
  • Putting dirty clothes in the basket
  • Setting the table (napkins, utensils and other unbreakable items)

Jobs for children aged five to seven:

  • Making the bed
  • Feeding pets
  • Food cleaning
  • Cleaning the table after meals

Jobs for children aged seven to nine:

  • Taking out the trash
  • Folding laundry
  • Simple meal preparation (preparation of necessary ingredients, etc.)
  • Cleaning the table after meals

Therefore, introducing regular housework into the children’s routine not only helps with everyday tasks, but also lays the foundations for a responsible and successful future.
