One month until US election day. Who will rule America?
It is officially the last month of the campaign for the 2024 US presidential election, a campaign that has seemed crazy for months, writes CNN.
Americans witnessed the withdrawal of the incumbent Democratic president from the race, the narrow escape of the Republican candidate from an assassination attempt and the ascent of the first black woman on a national list.
In the first week of October, Kamala Harris’s campaign is spending the most in the critical trio of “Blue Wall” states – they have set aside more than $5 million in Pennsylvania, about $4 million in Michigan, plus about 2.7 million of dollars in Wisconsin. And that makes sense — if Harris wins all three of those states, plus Nebraska’s electoral vote in the 2nd congressional district (where the campaign also has more than $300,000 in ad time this week) , she is the next president.
On the other hand, Donald Trump’s campaign is heading to the Sun Belt. This week, Trump’s campaign is spending the most on ads in Pennsylvania, $3.8 million — it’s really the linchpin of both parties’ strategies. But on top of that, the campaign is spending $3.4 million in North Carolina and nearly $3 million in Georgia, the other primary targets, and if it wins those two states plus Pennsylvania, it will return to the White House.
Election Day is a month away, but so many Americans are already voting that Election Day is undoubtedly right now. In addition, the counting of mail-in votes and possible recounts in key states means we likely won’t know who won the election until after the polls close on November 5.
Whatever happens with the 2024 election, Trump is unlikely to accept the results if Harris wins. His allies are preparing for a legal battle after Election Day to challenge the votes and possibly the certification of the election results, which must be completed by Dec. 11 for voters to gather in state capitals and officially cast their ballots on Dec. 17 .
Then, as everyone should remember from 2020, the electoral votes are to be counted in Congress, this time under the presidency of Vice President Harris, on January 6, 2025. The new president is sworn in on January 20, 2025.
