Domestic American tennis players Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe will face each other in the semi-finals of the men’s singles at the US Open Grand Slam tournament.

As the 20th seed, Tiafoe led over Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov 6:3, 6:7 (5), 6:3, 4:1 when his opponent scratched the match.

Fritz followed up his five-set triumph over Zverev from Wimbledon.

“I have been in the quarterfinals of the US Open many times in the past years, but I did not manage to advance to the semifinals. Now it’s finally out. I told myself that I have to play with maximum concentration from start to finish and use every chance to break on the return, which I succeeded. The fans were fantastic, they supported me throughout the match,” Fritz told accredited media.

Against Dimitrov, Tiafoe took advantage of the fact that his opponent had problems with his leg and finally scratched the match.

“I would much rather advance after the converted match ball. but the semi-finals of the US Open are valued. Everything is possible now. It will be a fierce battle with Taylor. He has a great serve and is performing well at this year’s US Open, but I will do everything to make it to my first Grand Slam final,” Tiafoe said.
