One UI 7.0: everything we know about Samsung’s new user interface

Samsung has confirmed that One UI 7.0, the next major update to its mobile UI, will not be released in 2024 as initially planned, but will see the light in early 2025. The announcement was made during the Samsung Developer Conference 2024 (SDC24).

The decision to postpone the release is due the scope and importance of this updatewhich requires more development time before being ready for the public. One UI 7.0 is in fact described as one of the most significant updates made by the company in recent years.

One UI 7.0 aims to simplify and completely revamp the user experience with Samsung devices.

At SDC24, Samsung revealed that the central theme of One UI 7.0 will be to elicit a positive and emotional response from users while interacting with the interface. To achieve this, the company is working on a new design focused on three main elements:

  • Simplicity: Aim for functional simplicity throughout the user interface.
  • Impact: Create a distinctive new experience for One UI.
  • Emotionality: implement interface elements, capable of eliciting an emotionally positive response in users.

This approach will result in a profound renovation of both the visual appearance and functionality of One UI. However, many specific details are not yet confirmed or may change before the final release.

Although many aspects may still change, several rumors and previews have revealed some of the possible new features of One UI 7.0:

  • Smooth animations and transitions to modernize the overall feel of the interface
  • Introduction of the “Galaxy Avatar” feature, although details are not yet known
  • I redraw icons for many (if not all) Samsung apps
  • New notification area and quick toggles, with more customization options
  • Quick access to notifications and toggles based on the part of the status bar you swipe from
  • Redesign of some Samsung apps, including the Camera app with a cleaner interface
  • Possible introduction of a new “Cloud” app for backup services
  • Improvements to parental controls
  • Potential integration of more Good Lock features
  • Greater system stability and animation fluidity
  • Option to completely disable thermal throttling
  • Enhanced Galaxy AI features, including notification summaries
  • Security improvements, particularly in Auto Blocker’s “Maximum Restrictions” mode

Samsung plans to release the public version of One UI 7.0 in early 2025. It is likely that the Galaxy S25 series is the first to be equipped with the new update pre-installed.

However, it is expected a beta version of One UI 7.0 with limited availability by the end of 2024, which will be compatible with devices currently on the market (such as the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra which you can find on Amazon). Some rumors suggest that the program beta could launch between November 11th and 17th.

The details on device compatibility and geographic availability of the beta have not yet been officially confirmed. More information will likely be released by Samsung in the coming weeks as we get closer to the launch date of the beta program.

Anticipation for One UI 7.0 is high among Samsung usersas it promises to be one of the most significant updates to the interface of Galaxy devices in recent years. It remains to be seen how these promises will translate into the end user experience, once the update is available to the public.
