In Chinese culture, the number 4 is considered unlucky, with most companies avoiding attaching the number to new models of their products. And mobile device manufacturer OnePlus is no exception, confirming that its new family of smartphones will be called Ace 5 and Ace 5 Pro, completely skipping the possible OnePlus Ace 4 models. Incidentally, the Chinese company had the same strategy on its flagships as well, jumping straight from the OnePlus 3T to the OnePlus 5.
Top performance and features compared to the competition
Also, Li Jie, the president of OnePlus, revealed on the social media platform Weibo that the performance tests for the Ace 5 series are very promising, indicating that they would be a generation better than the smartphones in the same class offered by the competition of at OnePlus.
In fact, most likely, the OnePlus Ace 5 model will be rebranded for the international market with the name OnePlus 13R. It should be “powered” by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC (system-on-a-chip) (the same chip found in most 2024 flagships). Instead, the Ace 5 Pro model would benefit from the Snapdragon 8 Elite, the most powerful mobile platform now available from Qualcomm.
The Ace 5 model should use a 6.78-inch diagonal flat screen, AMOLED LTPO technology, 1.5K resolution, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage and a circular camera module on the back with a main sensor of 50 MP, an ultra-wide lens of 8 MP and a “decorative” one of 2 MP (depth or macro sensor). They will be joined by a 16 MP selfie camera and a generous battery with a capacity of 6000 mAh and support for fast wired charging at 100W.
The OnePlus Ace 5 and Ace 5 Pro models, dedicated to the Chinese market, should be launched, according to rumors, in December this year.
