OnePlus has presented the new OnePlus Watch 2Ra “lite” version of the popular Watch 2 that maintains its main features in a lighter and more accessible body. Let’s see in detail what this new smartwatch offers.
Design and construction
The OnePlus Watch 2R comes with a classic and elegant designavailable in the colors Forest Green e Gunmetal Gray. The forest green variant, in particular, represents a novelty in the color range of OnePlus smartwatches. The body is made of aluminummaking it approximately 25% lighter than the Watch 2. This makes it ideal for those looking for a device that is comfortable to wear all day, even during physical activity. There are also two side buttons: one for quick access to apps and one dedicated to fitness tracking.
A distinctive element is represented by the two-tone design bezelswhich recall classic chronometers and give a touch of personality to the watch. Despite its lightness, the Watch 2R does not compromise on robustness: It is 5ATM and IP68 certifiedmaking it also suitable for swimming and outdoor sports.
Hardware and autonomy
Under the hood, the OnePlus Watch 2R hides some very respectable hardware. The beating heart is the Dual-Engine Architecture developed by OnePlus, which is based on two chipsets: the Snapdragon W5 for performance and the BES 2700 MCU for energy efficiency. This solution allows for optimal management of workloads: the BES 2700 chip, operating on an RTOS platform, takes care of background activities and simple tasks, while the Snapdragon W5 comes into play for operations that require greater computing power. Everything is orchestrated by the hybrid interface of Wear OS 4which manages the switching between the two chips.
The result is truly remarkable battery life for a Wear OS smartwatch: up to 100 hours of normal use with all the features active in Smart mode, which drops to 48 hours in case of intense use. 500mAh battery fully charges in 60 minutes thanks to the 7.5W VOOC technology. To complete the hardware equipment we find 2 GB in RAM e 32 GB of internal storagewhich ensure fluidity of use and ample space for apps and data.
Software and features
The OnePlus Watch 2R runs the latest version of Wear OSGoogle’s operating system for wearables. This means access to all the apps in the Play Store and the main pre-installed Google applications such as Assistant, Maps, Wallet and Calendar. Particularly useful is the‘Google Maps integrationwhich allows you to receive detailed directions directly on your wrist for travel on foot, by bike, by car or by public transport. With Google Wallet Instead, you can make contactless payments in stores that support Google Pay.
Connection with the smartphone is made easier by the support for Fast Pairwhich allows you to quickly pair the watch with OnePlus phones or other compatible Android devices. Once connected, the Watch 2R can manage calls, messages and control media playback right from your wrist.
Fitness and health tracking
Great attention has been paid to the Tracking physical activity and health parameters. The integrated OHealth app has been improved and now offers more than 100 sports modesamong which some disciplines stand out with dedicated functions. For example, for badminton the watch is able to detect specific parameters such as swing speed and strength. In running, advanced data such as ground contact time (GCT), GCT balance and VO2 max are monitored. The accuracy of the GPS tracking is guaranteed by the use of dual-frequency antennas, capable of receiving both the L1 and L5 signals for greater positioning accuracy.
On the wellness front, the OHealth app offers in-depth sleep analysis, with detection of the various stages of sleep (deep, light, REM) and even breathing rate during rest. There is also stress monitoring based on the analysis of the heart rate variability (HRV).
