The Brazilian women played the regular part in Group C, where they finished in third place with three points. Right at the start of the Olympic tournament, they won 1:0 over Nigeria. But then two losses followed. 1:2 with Japan and 0:2 with Spain. They did not dazzle in the group, but thanks to the table of the third teams, they made it to the knockout stages. They faced host France in the quarter-finals and ended up winning 1-0, ensuring that the French women would go without a medal at their home Olympics. And they also did well in the semi-finals, beating Spain 2-0 and are in the finals of the Olympic Games, where they will fight for gold medals.
