5:35 Former US President Donald Trump spoke by phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump, who this week accepted the nomination for the November presidential election in the USA, wrote this on his social network Truth Social. He called the interview “very good”. Zelenskyy confirmed the phone call and said that he agreed with Trump on a personal meeting.
Trump has already repeatedly stated that if he wins the November elections, he will quickly end the war in Ukraine, which is facing a Russian military invasion. In a post about the phone call with Zelensky, he wrote that as the next US president he would bring peace to the world and end “a war that has cost so many lives and destroyed countless innocent families.” “Both sides will be able to meet and negotiate an agreement that will end the violence and open the way to prosperity,” he added.
Last Saturday, Trump survived an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, from which he escaped with an injury to his right ear. In a telephone conversation, Zelensky condemned this assassination.
“I spoke to Donald Trump to congratulate him on the Republican nomination (for the presidency) and to condemn the shocking assassination attempt. I wished him strength and absolute security in the future,” the Ukrainian president wrote on the X network. He added that he and Trump agreed to discuss in a personal meeting what steps can ensure a just and lasting peace. He also expressed gratitude to the United States for helping Ukraine face “Russian terror.”
