If it is just a quick end to the war, it will be a loss for Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said about Donald Trump’s earlier statements that he would stop the war in Ukraine in 24 hours. Zelensky said this after the summit of the European Political Community in Budapest, the Ukrainska pravda server reports.
Zelenskyy says that he has not yet discussed this with Trump, he will listen to the proposals of the new American president later. “One thing is clear to me that he really wants the end,” the Ukrainian leader emphasized, according to the server.
Concessions to Russia are unacceptable for Ukraine and suicidal for Europe, Zelensky declared according to press agencies. He warned the top representatives of European countries at the summit in Budapest that it is Russia that is escalating the situation by deploying North Korean soldiers in the war against Ukraine. Peace must be achieved through force, Zelensky noted, alluding to the slogan of Donald Trump, who won the US presidential election this week.
“We should not imagine that by showing weakness or sacrificing certain European positions or the positions of one European country, we can buy peace,” said the country’s president, who is in his third year fighting against Russian aggression, warning Europeans against any reduction in pressure on Moscow. “Hugs with Putin will not help. Some of you have been embracing it for 20 years and things just keep getting worse. He only thinks about wars and will not change. Only pressure can set his limits,” he insisted. Ukraine, whose army has been retreating for months against much larger and better-armed Russian forces, “needs more weapons, not support in talks” with Moscow, Zelenskyy said, according to AFP.
At the summit of the European Political Community, the Ukrainian president also warned that the closer a European country is to Russia, the weaker the concept of its neutrality appears. The end of the war should be decided by Ukraine and the bill for the war should be paid by Russia, declared the president defending the country
