After Citroën, it is Opel’s turn to organize a major recall for its BlueHDi diesel engine, on more than 2,000 cars in France.
Recall campaigns are very common in the automotive industry and have been for many years.
Opel launches major recall campaign
And all manufacturers can be affected, whether they are high-end or, on the contrary, more mainstream. Indeed, we think for example of Ferrari, but also Ford, Hyundai or Peugeot, among others. One of the latest concerns Citroën, which launched a massive recall, referenced under the code JTT, aimed at correcting a potential problem on the urea injector of certain engines BlueHDi. This preventive measure concerns more than 4,000 vehicles, mainly SpaceTourer and Jumpy models. But the chevron company is not the only one affected by this problem, since it logically shares its engines with other brands in the Stellantis group. Among them, Opel, which recently announced a similar recall under the reference KIV. And the latter is quite large-scale, since it concerns more than 2,000 vehicles in France, including the Mokka, Astra and Grandland models. We will explain everything to you in more detail in the rest of our article below!
A problem with the diesel engine
In fact, you should know that the Mocha Affected vehicles were assembled between 5 January and 6 September 2023, while Astras manufactured between 19 July 2022 and 11 July 2023, and Grandlands produced between 26 September 2022 and 2 September 2023, are also affected. The main objective of these recalls is to update the calibration software of the electronic control unit (ECU) of the affected BlueHDi engines. This update is crucial to prevent the vehicles from exceeding the regulatory limits ofNOx emission. As a reminder, these are particularly harmful to the environment and public health, and they are then tracked by manufacturers and public authorities. By adjusting the software parameters, manufacturers hope to reduce emissions to acceptable levels and in line with current standards. Of course, all affected customers will be contacted by their dealer, while repairs will be fully covered by Opel.
Do not hesitate to speak to your dealer if in doubt!
