OpenAI is looking into the possibility of developing its own humanoid robot, according to a recent report, although it closed its robotics division in 2021, writes TechCrunch.
According to a report by The Information, OpenAI, the company known for creating ChatGPT, recently explored the idea of building a humanoid robot. The information comes from “two people with direct knowledge” of these discussions.
Although OpenAI quietly shut down its robotics division in 2021, the company has remained involved in the field through financial investments. This has supported companies such as Figure, 1X and Physical Intelligence, which are developing AI with diverse applications, including robotics.
Recent years have brought significant advances in both the hardware and the AI systems that power robots. However, if OpenAI were to decide to re-enter the field with a new robotics division, it would have a lot of catching up to do with competitors already ahead of them.
