OpenAI leaked the expected video generator. It was published by artists in protest

  • The Sora video generator appears to have been leaked by the OpenAI organization
  • It was supposed to be published by the artists to express their disapproval
  • They don’t like the company’s approach to testers and the tool’s impact on art

Earlier this year, OpenAI convinced us that stunning videos can be created in seconds with just a text command. Until a frighteningly capable model of Sora was supposed to be available to the public this year, according to earlier reports, but at the moment it doesn’t look like the creators of ChatGPT will be able to keep this promise. Those interested among ordinary mortals who were fast enough could still try it out – thanks leakage.

A lightweight version of the OpenAI Sora model, which managed to generate 10-second videos in FullHD resolution, se she discovered on the Hugging Face platform. According to foreign media and posts on the X social network, they were behind its publication artistswho were involved in the test program. The service stopped working after a few hours and it is likely that OpenAI pushed for it directly.

From the expression of the “leakers” in the form of an open letter, it is evident that they placed the previously unpublicized model of artificial intelligence on Hugging Face for the reason protest.

“We received access to the Sora model with the promise of becoming early testers, red teamers (users testing AI for potentially harmful outputs, ed.) and creative partners. However, we believe that instead we have been lured into ‘art washing’ (something useful for the art community that will actually only harm, ed.) to tell the world that Sora is a useful tool for artists.” he writes in a letter.

“We are not your unpaid bug-finders, PR stooges, data-training subjects, or validation tokens,” they deliver. At the same time, they draw attention to the value of the company, which exceeds the threshold of 150 billion US dollars.

The artists further explain that he feels no resistance to using AI as a tool for creators. However, they are bothered by the way in which the Sora model test program was built and how the tool itself is being shaped before possible publication.

How much will AI affect art?
