Opera requests EU to tear up Edge decision

The decision not to classify Microsoft Edge as a gatekeeper according to the DMA upsets the Opera developer.

The developer Opera, which is behind the browser of the same name, has come up with one in a blog post request that the EU should reverse and reconsider the decision not to classify Microsoft’s Edge browser as a gatekeeper under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). It was in February that the EU decided that Edge would not be classified as a gatekeeper and thus forced to choose the DMS rules.

Opera claims that Microsoft is still creating obstacles for users who want to use browsers other than their own. It is also claimed that Microsoft uses a number of different tactics to get Windows users to continue using Edge, which would mean that Edge needs to conform to the rules set out in the DMA (Digital Markets Act).

So far, neither the EU nor Microsoft have had anything to say about Opera’s request.
